Gardenlab Experiment

This 4 month studio course, co-taught by Joshua Trees and Francois Perrin, as part of Art Center College of Design's transdisciplinary initiative (an educational exchange between the departments of Environmental Design, Graphic Design and Fine Art) culminated into The Gardenlab Experiment, curated by Francois Perrin and Fritz Haeg, a month-long series of projects and events and the construction of a micro-ecosystem in The Wind Tunnel, a former jet testing facility in Pasadena, California.
In this context, graphic design performed a broader role than wayfinding signage and wall didactics, serving as a network of 2-D, 3-D and 4-D content offering diverse options for navigating, experiencing and understanding over 60 scientific and artistic works about our existing and future ecologies, initiating debate about the proposed models not just explaining them, and integrating with not imposing upon the built environment, at times indistinguishable from the exhibited work.
